大萨克拉门托

Advanced.farm is a cutting-edge agtech company located just minutes from UC Davis – the country’s #1 agricultural science university — in the Greater Sacramento region. The company develops automated farm equipment, including robots for harvesting apples, tree fruit and strawberries. They’ve grown rapidly in the Greater Sacramento region thanks to the region’s excellence in agricultural research, talent and industry innovation.

When asked how the region facilitates success for his company, President and CFO Kyle Cobb said, “We love it here because we’re never more than 10 or 15 minutes away from any major crop that we’re interested in… That makes for a great environment for research… Sacramento has this great mix of innovation in the private sector, research in the public sector, leading universities and a lot of talent that’s looking to advance ideas.”

Advanced.farm has benefited greatly from its proximity to Greater Sacramento’s universities, including UC Davis and Sacramento state. The company has partnered with graduate students and professors on research. In July 2022, they announced a partnership with UC Davis’ strawberry breeding program to evaluate new cultivars for robotic harvest. Advanced.farm credits the regional talent base with helping it build its top-tier team of 60.

The company has also been able to tap into the Greater Sacramento region’s extensive network of biotech and plant science R&D companies. “We’ve been able to benefit a lot from learning from companies that… have grown big global research organizations here in the Sacramento area. It provides a really unique setting to grow a business,” said Cobb.

The Greater Sacramento region is home to global leaders across the agricultural supply chain from R&D giants like BASF, Novozymes, Syngenta and Yara to production, processing and retail companies like TOMRA, Blue Diamond Almonds and Raley’s. Advanced.farm has ambitions of someday joining their ranks.

“We started in a barn, but there’s no reason to think that we can’t grow into a campus where we could lead research in farm robotics for the next century right here in Sacramento.”
