Shon Harris


City of Yuba City

Mayor Harris is a fourth generation Yuba City resident. He began his extensive public service career in 1984 which, in addition to a rewarding career providing for the safety of the public, has provided him with significant local and state government experience. He joined the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in 1995 and has steadily promoted through the ranks. In December of 2017, he retired at the rank of Captain while serving as the Commander of the Yuba-Sutter Area CHP office. During his career, he served as President of the Golden Gate Bridge Security Coalition and a member of the California Governor’s Security Detail. Councilman Harris holds Associates, Bachelors and Masters degrees in Criminal Justice Administration in addition to many hours of continuing education on a variety of topics including leadership, and public agency management. In addition to public safety, Mayor Harris’ priorities for 2019 include economic development, homelessness, tourism and improving/preserving our unique quality of life in Yuba City.

He has three grown children and three grandchildren. He enjoys traveling, photography, hiking, quality time with family and volunteer opportunities in the community. Shon is a member of the Yuba City Masonic Lodge and Moose Lodge, a board member of the Yuba-Sutter Arts Council and is a licensed foster parent through Environmental Alternatives in Marysville. He served as Yuba City Planning Commissioner in 2016 before running for City Council.
