As the President and CEO of VSP Vision, Michael Guyette brings three decades of experience in the healthcare industry to the world’s largest, health-focused vision benefits company with a purpose to empower human potential through sight.
Guyette oversees the company’s industry-leading businesses, which combine eye care insurance covering more than 85 million lives; high-quality eyewear and customized lenses; ophthalmic technology; and connected experiences to strengthen the relationship between patients and a network of over 41,000 private practice eye doctors and more than 700 optical retail stores.
Prior to joining VSP Vision, Guyette served as President and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota where he was responsible for strategy and operations for the state’s largest health plan serving 2.9 million members through a full scope of health plan products and services. As a long-time advocate of making health insurance better aligned with the needs of consumers, during his tenure he also helped launch Minnesota’s first retail health insurance store in November 2014.
Prior to that, Guyette held senior leadership positions at Aetna, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida and Independence Blue Cross.
Since joining VSP Vision in 2018, Guyette has led the organization through a number of transformational milestones to meet changing consumer, client and industry expectations. In 2019, under Guyette’s leadership, VSP more than doubled its global workforce through the acquisition of Visionworks and North Carolina-based Community Eye Care. That same year, the company also launched VSP Ventures, a new business unit designed to offer care-focused solutions for eye doctors looking to transition their practices. In 2020, Guyette accepted the Persons of Vision Award on behalf of VSP, capping a two-decade partnership between VSP’s Eyes of Hope charitable platform and the non-profit Prevent Blindness to provide access to vision care to more than 250,000 adults and children in need.
Outside VSP, Guyette serves as board chair of the Greater Sacramento Economic Council, an organization dedicated to driving economic growth in the Sacramento region, where VSP is headquartered. He also serves as a member of the UC Davis Health National Board of Advisors and the Governors Community of the World Economic Forum’s Platform for Shaping the Future of Health and Healthcare.
A native of Rhode Island, Guyette holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of North Texas, and an MBA from Villanova University.
