As the President and CEO of VSP Global, Michael Guyette brings more than 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry to VSP Global, the world’s largest vision benefits company. VSP Global is a doctor-governed organization that exists to create value for members and opportunities for eye doctors.
Guyette oversees the company’s industry-leading businesses, which combine eye care insurance covering 90 million lives worldwide; high-quality eyewear and customized lenses; ophthalmic technology; and connected experiences to strengthen the relationship between patients and a network of nearly 40,000 private practice eye doctors and more than 700 optical retail stores.
Prior to joining VSP Global, Guyette served as President and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota where he was responsible for strategy and operations for the state’s largest health plan serving 2.9 million members through a full scope of health plan products and services. As a long-time advocate of making health insurance better aligned with the needs of consumers, during his tenure he also helped launch Minnesota’s first retail health insurance store in November 2014.
Prior to that, Guyette held senior leadership positions at Aetna, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida and Independence Blue Cross.
Since joining VSP Global in 2018, Guyette has helped lead the organization through a number of transformational milestones to meet changing consumer, client and industry expectations. In 2019 alone, under Guyette’s leadership, VSP more than doubled its global workforce through the acquisition of Visionworks and North Carolina-based Community Eye Care. The company launched its first contact lens product, opened the country’s first brick-and-mortar Eyeconic stores, and launched VSP Ventures, a new business unit designed to offer care-focused solutions for eye doctors looking to transition their practices.
Outside VSP, Guyette serves as vice chair on the board of directors for the Greater Sacramento Economic Council, an organization dedicated to driving economic growth in the Sacramento region where VSP is headquartered and employs about 3,700 people. He also serves as a member of the UC Davis Health National Advisory Panel and, in 2020, joined the board of the California Chamber of Commerce.
A native of Rhode Island, Guyette holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of North Texas, and an MBA from Villanova University.
