The impact of Sutter Health’s not-for-profit mission, to enhance the health and well-being of the communities we serve, reaches far beyond the walls of our hospitals and clinics. As one of Sacramento’s oldest and largest employers, Sutter Health helps drive economies across the region. I joined the GSEC Board to actively work to enhance and promote the Greater Sacramento region so other businesses can benefit from all that this vibrant community has to offer, just as we have.
James Conforti serves as Chief Operating Officer of Northern California-based Sutter Health, a not-for-profit health system caring for nearly 3 million patients—or one in every 100 Americans. In this role, he oversees operations across Sutter Health’s 24 hospitals and 5 medical foundations.
James Conforti previously served as President of the Sutter Health Valley Area and as President of the Sutter Health Sacramento Sierra Region, both nationally recognized by Truven Health Analytics as a Top 5 Large Health System. He has held multiple senior leadership positions within Sutter, including CEO roles at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto, Sutter Gould Medical Foundation, and Sutter North Medical Foundation, as well as regional director of managed care and business development for Sutter Health’s Central Valley service area.
Previously, James served as a Medical Service Corps Officer in the United States Army for nine years. He holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations from the University of Washington and a master of health science degree in health finance and management from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He serves on the executive committee for the Greater Sacramento Area Economic Council and on the California Business Roundtable board of directors. He also leads a strategic community benefit investment strategy that works to increase access to housing, health care and mental health services for the most vulnerable citizens in our communities.
